With the Madonie mountain range to the west and the volcano Etna to the east, the region is an appealing destination for anyone wanting to make a foray into the ultimate winter sport - skiing - or simply looking to spend a few hours on the snow.
There are ski lifts on both the northern and southern slopes of Mount Etna with pistes catering to skiers of all abilities.
Piste conditions tend to be better on the northern side, even towards the end of the season. In addition to downhill skiing, Etna also has good cross-country skiing trails.
